At the core of Software Craft lies the idea of raising the bar through deliberate practice. Deliberate practice is a very specific way to master a skill: time-boxed sessions during which you try out a technique with or without specific constraints, followed by an immediate retrospective.
In this session, I will go through:
- the key elements of deliberate practice
- usual formats for deliberate practice for XP practices and not only
- patterns of deliberate practice
By the end of this session, I hope you will understand what is deliberate practice and how it can help you master a skill, and to start thinking about your own formats for practice, while getting inspiration from the multiple examples I tried out, reviewed, or created.
